SmartSens Announces New Domestically Produced 50MP CMOS Image Sensor for High-End Smartphone Cameras

Shanghai, China, November 28, 2024 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC585XS, a 50-MegaPixel (MP), 1/1.28-inch CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) for high-end smartphone cameras. This is a fully domestically produced 50MP high-end flagship smartphone application image sensor developed by SmartSens based on the 28+nm Stacked process technology. With a large pixel size of 1.22µm, SC585XS incorporates SmartSens’ advanced technologies such as SFCPixel®-2, PixGain HDR® and AllPix ADAF®, featuring high dynamic range, ultra-low noise, fast autofocus, and ultra-low power consumption. The excellent imaging performance of SC585XS can fully meet the high-performance imaging requirements of flagship smartphones.

Main features

High dynamic range(HDR)

Based on SmartSens’ advanced PixGain HDR® technology, the SC585XS has achieved a significant increase in dynamic range, with a maximum dynamic range of up to 88dB. Even in complex lighting conditions with high contrast, it can help mobile phone cameras capture high-quality images with varying brightness and rich details. Moreover, benefiting from PixGain HDR® technology's combination of dual images (High Gain [high conversion gain] and Low Gain [low conversion gain]) under single exposure, SC585XS can effectively suppress motion artifacts while ensuring high dynamic range.

Ultra-low noise

As a CIS for high-end smartphones, SC585XS is equipped with SmartSens’ SFCPixel®-2 technology, which reduces noise while achieving higher sensitivity. Its Read Noise (RN) is less than 1e-, which is about 33% lower than that of competitors with the same specifications. Therefore, even in low-light environments, the SC585XS can bring high-quality images with clear details to smartphone cameras.

Dual fast autofocus modes

Benefits from SmartSens’AllPix ADAF® and Sparse PDAF technologies, the SC585XS achieves adaptive capabilities for two fast autofocus modes under diverse lighting conditions. In low-light environments, SC585XS can use the AllPix ADAF® mode to achieve high-speed and precise focusing through all-pixel all-directional autofocus. In ordinary lighting environments, SC585XS can switch to the Sparse PDAF mode, achieving precise focusing and significantly reducing power consumption through sparse pixel phase detection.

Ultra-low power consumption

Relying on its excellent low power consumption design, SC585XS achieves ultra-low power consumption while ensuring overall performance. Compared with competitors of the same specification, the power consumption of SC585XS is reduced by approximately 30% in the AllPix ADAF® mode and by approximately 50% in the Sparse PDAF mode. Low power consumption helps mitigate device overheating during video shooting, significantly increasing the maximum duration of video recording and the battery life of the phone.
